Not Your Ordinary Stacking Cups

Mealtime tends to be my least favorite part of the day. Half my time is spent coaxing my 3 year old to eat his food and the other half is usually spent picking up food from the floor - Elise is notorious for tossing what's on her plate every which way. The most annoying part, she smiles at me everytime she does it - lol!

Elise's newest mealtime quirk is the way she handles her food. Somehow everything on her plate ends up in her hand. No matter what it is, (pancakes, grilled cheese, pretzels - you name it) the food ends up stacked until she can't fit anymore in her hand. Funny part is, this is they way she eats her food. Stack in hand, she takes it bite by bite until it is gone!

Happy Birthday, Owen!

Happy Birthday to you!!! I can't believe you are three years old today... This cake is for you.

Handmade Valentines

The last couple weeks activities were centered around Valentine's day. I found a couple projects that kept Owen busy and excited. I cut out sponges into the shapes of hearts and Owen painted with them. To keep the mess to a minimum, I attached a craft stick to the backs of the sponges = no messy hands. After the hearts had dried, I cut them out and attached them to paper doilies and wrote "xoxo Owen" on them. Voila - an instant valentine! Owen talked about the hearts for days saying, saying "lets paint with hearts."

Don't You Love the Smell of Lavender?

... I do! The whole first floor of my house smells of lavender because I've been making these little beauties (courtesy of Papertrey Ink):

Aren't they beautiful? I was quite hesitant when I started this project. You know how it works; you see something you like, re-create it to a tee and somehow it never turns out like the original? That was my fear with this project. These were so easy to make - definately a project that can be made in bulk and quickly. I made alot of extras... When I'm in need of a quick gift, these will be easy to grab when I'm in a pinch. Not only would they make great Mother's Day gifts, but great thank you gifts as well. I can't wait to give them a few "special people".

Finally, Done.

Remember this? Well I finally made these little cuties to go with.

I've had these on my to-do list for awhile now just have't had the motivation to do them. They are made entirely out of polar fleece and super easy to do. I was going to use chocolate brown sherpa suede on the bottoms but it wasn't laying exactly as I would have liked. Anyways I figured as Elise isn't walking yet I don't really need the non-skid bottoms.

I can't wait to see these on Elise with the hat. It makes me want to go outside and do something "Christmas-y".

Long Time No Post

It's been awhile, hasn't it? Too much has been going around here and therefore blogging got put on the backburner for awhile.

From me being sick, Owen being sick and me being sick again, you'd think that was enough craziness for one month, but no - not a chance. The week before Halloween I started with a sinus infection, which seemed to clear up. Then the week after Halloween it all came back - hard and I ended up on antibiotics, which seemed forever to do the trick. But all in all it's resolved and I'm feeling much better! Elise had her 6 month well exam last Monday and we ended up discovering a left ear infection. Poor thing, Elise wasn't showing any signs of distress - I wonder without her check up if I would have ever known.

On top of all that, Elise got her first tooth this week! I didn't think that little sucker was ever going to break through, but this week it did. To top it all off, she is in the early stages of crawling - I can hardly believe it. She looks so little and petit to be crawling but she gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth and does a couple scoots. She then flops down on her belly with extremities flapping in the breeze - you know, that fish-out-of-water look.

Christmas shopping has been in full swing here. My goal is to have all gifts purchased by December 1st and I'd say we are well on our way, we are 75% finished, minus the handmade gifts I still need to make.

I loved books when I was a kid and I find myself buying alot of books for the kids. Not just any book, but books that teach something, have a meaning or some sort of purpose. As I was Christmas shopping, I came across this little gem: I'll See You in the Morning.
